Here You Begin...

Excerpt . . .

from Here You Begin:
A Guided Journal for Discovering Your Passions, Your Purpose
and Creating the Work only You Can Do

By Elizabeth Darby

Dear Reader,

You are not perfect at anything . . . except at being you.

You are perfectly made, however, for the life and work you are here to do in your life-time.

So this guide to discovering you, your Passions and Purpose, and designing the Life Path only You can do is written for you--

It is for you who feels the simultaneous excitement, confusion and freezing fear brought by the myriad decisions before you as you think of the Life and living you build day by day, moment by moment, as you live.  It is what you do in this moment that makes your dream come true. It's how you fill this moment that reveals your essential Being in this world.

The possibilities for how any of us spend our time here on Earth, and how we put into service our energy, talents — the choices of what to make of  ourselves — are indeed endless. Such choices are limited only by a combination of imagination, self-confidence and sheer courage for all of us, no matter where we are, to meet our own Self in the process.  There is not a circumstance that limits the possibility of becoming exactly whom we each dream to be, as it is only the actions of each moment that define each of us, revealing our Spirit, our Purpose and our Strength.

I'm the first to say that it can feel more than a little overwhelming to suddenly comprehend that how any one of us meets each moment — this moment — reveals a bit more of the artwork that results from our individual time and energy spent here on earth.  Nor is it any consolation that we each return to a moment of beginning anew — over and over again in life.

For those among us seeking happily-ever-after perfection, beginning again is a hope for getting it right this time.  But more likely our lives are taking yet one more trip around the merry-go-round of self-doubt, self-destruction or self-disappointment as we home for a new choice and a new journey. Such moments of confusion — or even terror — over What Do I Do Now?? (and the nagging voice behind it whispering "Oh, what if I make a gaff of it this time/ again/ now?") are not confined to those just graduating from school or university.

We each face these moments, whether early leavers or newly pink-slipped workers finding they've been made redundant, or among those of us facing new choices of what to do in life based on sudden family changes, due to additions of children or elderly parents to our nests, or now nearly-empty nests, as we face hours of weeding awaiting us in the garden.  Perhaps there should be a new bumper sticker added to our cars of life, alongside the country/ university/ political/ religious identifications, this one stating simply: Starting Over Happens. . . .

Inspiration a.k.a Dreams a.k.a. "Hey, wouldn't it be great if there was a ______________ in the world?"  These inspirations are here to nudge you onto one of the many paths before you. No matter how many tangles and switchbacks on it, here's a beginning on the path to see what your purpose is here and now:

I'm an inventor and I can make anything work.

This is a description (or a sketch) of the invention
I feel the World needs most:

Whatever you feel the world needs most points directly to what you care to do here. The things, people, places, issues, injustices, broken places or broken creatures that concern you, and the invention you feel the world needs to help it in this area — whatever that may be in your opinion — is exactly what you are here to do. You have all you need to create it, amazingly enough. It starts with your naming it, proceeds to your creating it, and ends with allowing the seemingly magical energy of the creation to flow to a needy world.
