Fine Books and Journals

Picture

We are a small, new indie publisher, run by old hands in publishing with over 30 years' experience in all aspects of publishing and media.

Here is what we do:

- Publish a few great titles in traditional print and e-books in the areas of spiritual, self-help, historical fiction, non-fiction narrative, gift, and poetry.

- Run the occasional prize for literature in for women authors of fiction, narrative nonfiction, and YA.

What we are looking for --

We publish a few books each year that fit our specific look and feel of small books packing a masterful story. We are looking for voices and topics that become classics with love and time. We are looking for tomorrow's Doris Lessing, Laurens van der Post, Susanna Clarke, C.S. Lewis, George Eliot, or Jerome K. Jerome of a 21st century global society, and only in these areas:

Fiction:  Historical is especially welcome, as are new voices of under-represented segments of our global family.

Literary Non-fiction: Memoir; Spiritual and personal
development in new approaches; Literary travelogues; Literary environmental essay; beautifully told history.

Journals: Guided preferably; accompaniments to spiritual or personal development titles.

Gift Books: For especially elder audiences and seasonal (Mothering/Grandparents or Encouragement, etc) that fit the “slender small book” format.

Poetry: We love publishing poetry, new voices or old classics or both. It's a work of love and investment, not necessarily for profit. But at least query us.

We also welcome Young Adult titles.

We are exploring new ways to publish in a collaborative model, as well as traditional packaging of books for entrepreneurial authors, as we explore how to keep rights with the author in this fast-changing publishing world. Please contact us to discuss further the possibilities.

Don't you wonder what publishers and editors
really think of your work?

Try our Editor's Feedback Service

In our coaching and workshops, we offer a number of ways for you to work on your Work, improve the story, gain insight into areas in which your manuscript might need some TLC to make it sing in your voice.  We encourage you to take a close look at those offers and opportunities to receive help on your book as you are working on it.

If you'd like a 'quick appraisal' of your full book proposal as you prepare it for other publishers, you might like to avail yourself of our Editor Feedback Service.

For you, it provides a look at your work from the eyes of an experienced Editor who has been in the trenches of acquisition and successful publishing for twenty plus years.

This feedback is quick and short:  3 pages chock-full of suggestions for improvement on every aspect of your proposal or sample chapter, as well as  reflections on everything from genre to your voice, to your originality and first-impressions.

But don't worry. This feedback looks at your strengths as writer and storyteller as well, and gives you all the encouragement you might need to continue on the path of your project.

Don't you wonder what publishers and editors really think of your work?  Try it.

If you would like to request a personal Editor Feedback on your proposal,
please contact us and we'll set it up with you.

Note: We do not charge to submit to our publishing house (please see below); this is merely an offered service to authors for real editorial feedback, as we reject 99.9 percent of queries.

How to Submit:

Picture
1. Send a query via our form below or on our Contact page.
2. In your query, please provide:
    • a brief description of your work and genre, including length;
    • your contact information and a brief personal bio.
If we are interested, we will be back in touch for a larger proposal which will ask for a 3- to 5-page excerpt, and if non-fiction, a listing of each chapter.
3. We thank you for your interest in publishing with
Chesterton & Davies, Ltd.

Be Assured all of your information is kept private, neither sold nor distributed.
We do not track your visit to our website nor invade your privacy in any way.

Rules and Expectations:  We recognize that each and every work is a work of heart, soul and many long hours. We do not charge to submit to our house; we are sorry that due to volume of queries received, we are able to only respond to those projects in which we are positively interested. The wonderful world wide web has increased submissions to unmanageable magnitudes.

If you would like an Editor's personal and specific feedback on your hard work, as described above, you might consider availing yourself of the Editor Feedback Service noted above.

If we are interested in working with you toward publication on your book, we will be back in touch with you
within 4-8 weeks at the longest. There are no fees associated with our working with you to publish your book; we do not charge fees to edit, format, unless you would like us to serve as a book packager for you. Contact us for further details on this, for entrepreneurial authors, as we rarely offer it. We are an 'old-fashioned' publishing house and only work with those few books and authors we feel are able to work with us to create a successful and beautiful work.
