3 Tales Books

Books for Children

At 3 Tales, we specialize in publishing tomorrow's classics in children's literature.

We are a new indie publisher of books for children, run by old hands in publishing, writing and media, with over 30 years' experience in all aspects of literature and publishing books, writing, acquisition and author/publisher relations marketing, book birthing, packaging, reworking, guidance and workshops.

We are highly selective and very keen to publish the highest quality of book that will become children’s classics and stand the test of time.

We publish only one or two titles — if any — each year and are interested only in stories that stand the test of time.

We work in a collaborative publishing model, based on project, to make sure the author retains rights to his/her long-term investment (every children's book is a long-term investment of love and joy, not to mention hard-work) while we retain our love for the art of publishing.

Contact us for more information about how we can work together on your project.

Why a book publisher for children in the age of Apps?

Picture
Yes, even and especially in the age of Apps,
we believe that children still need books.

We know children need reading to, and love being read to, when also sitting wrapped in the arms of a loving and engaged caregiver. No headphones needed.

We believe children need the tactile interaction of adult and child lingering over beautiful illustrations and conversing about the ideas of the book.

In fact, these important magical moments go together and are the building blocks of a life-time of love, wonder, and intellect for your child.
It's up to you to make these tender, loving times a part of your child's happiest memories of her/her brief childhood, to nurture love for a lifetime.

What We're Looking For:

We are very selective.

We'll say that many times.

We look for a few great titles of Children's picture or illustrated books to publish, perhaps only one each year if any, at the Primary-level in story, fiction, and non-fiction; or in Young Adult (YA) literature. We seek only the stories and novels that will stand the test of time as worthy of a child's attention and imagination.

We aim to have our "First Editions" become those that collectors wish to own.  We intend to publish (and help to publish) classics that will grow in popularity, esteem, and sales with time, support, and love. We are only interested in tomorrow's classics rather than today's pop or rework of yesterday's hot item.  We are not interested in trends.

We specifically are looking for works that encourage time together between reader and child, with rich illustrations and language, engaging and comforting story, perhaps gentle wit, and especially those which inspire wonder about our magical world for the 0 - 3 or Primary (4-10) levels.  Arnold Loebel and beloved 'Frog and Toad', or 'Go To Sleep, Little Bear.' by Martin Waddell, where are you now? We also love books which teach and engage children in wonder and enthusiasm for the natural world and the co-inhabitants of our shared world. Today's child is tomorrow's conservationist, but only if we take time to share and teach, and spend time with them in the wonder of Nature writ large or writ backyard; we all share the same sky.

We also love assisting authors bring their very special books to the world, if among the above genres. We are very selective in this, but do so for those authors who show entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to creating their own indie press and could use experienced hands getting started. In this we collaborate for your success.

At the YA level, we are not interested in teen vampire dramas or books that encourage them; there is enough dark matter out there already. We rather encourage story with humor and heart, compassion, exploration and intelligence — and not ignorance, violence or stereotypes of any kind. We seek good narrative that encourages our next generation to meet the massive challenges before it with grace and preparation and maybe a bit of soul-saving wit.  We'd love to publish the next T.A. Barron or Patricia C. Wrede or Connie Willis and will consider fantasy or historical if it also provides the needed wisdom and teaching through story line or character development as well as these authors do.

In all cases, we are exploring the possibilities of collaborative printing, profit-sharing, or out-right packaging of books to allow control of the long-term success of the book to remain in the author's hands and best interest.

Please contact us to discuss how we can work with you on your children's book.

How to Submit:

Picture
Please query us below, with your contact information, a brief synopsis or sample of your proposed work, reader age group, and a brief personal bio. Also please indicate the status of illustrations, if any.

Due to volume of queries, we are only able to respond to those in which we are positively interested. If you have not heard from us in 8 weeks, please assume your work was not suited to our list or future plans at this time.

If you would like to know what editors really think of your work, please see our offer of Editorial Feedback at our sister site, Chesterton & Davies, Ltd.
There you'll find that we can offer feedback on your proposal, story line, and whole proposal package for other publishers. We do so at a very reasonable  rate.

Be assured your contact information is kept private and will only used for response from us regarding your query.
